The Share Connection

Okay, here's your chance to ask, tell and discuss.  Do that and you will help make this internet site become a special place.

Tell me what's happening, what's about to happen, what you think might happen, strange or funny happenings, sad happenings, those sick or who have passed on, old people out the door, new people in the door, good trends, bad trends, honest thoughts and anything else that might enlighten me and be of concern to everyone else. Just as important, give me feedback on anything you read on this website, especially what you read right here that's sent to me by other ag journalists.

You must tell me who you are. But beyond that, if you wish to remain anonymous, just say so. Or if what you tell me is only for me and no one else, that's as far as it will go.

I am the only one involved. There are no sponsors or reviewers.  No one is looking over my shoulder. Or as they say in Hawaii, I'm the Big Kahuna.

Consider the following:

About five years ago, a confidant in Palm Springs who had been close to Charlton Heston for years, arranged for me to get Heston's autograph. It wasn't easy. Heston was an extremely private person. But he consented. Afterward, I wanted to send Heston a thank you note but didn't have his address. Heston gave it to my confidant to pass on to me but only if I swore to never divulge it to anyone (I didn't) and to destroy the note I would receive on which it was written. ( I burned it).

With that, let's get started.

Below are excerpts from notes I have received from two highly successful ag journalists. If you have been here before, the first one has been posted since July. But the second one is new.

#1
"Now, here comes my real concern. In our haste to write and fill everything required, are we losing sight of the reader? As a writer, I find less time for thought and reflection. I find it more difficult to get into the field because I am tied to the desk more. The challenge is to keep fresh and do the depth of research required of the very complex issues that face us today."

#2
”I admit I'm one of those not communicating...you know, short notes don't really do it, but then I never seem to have time for the long thoughtful letters. As you and I discussed years ago - when it was becoming the 'fax or fedex' mentality - we were being forced to squeeze more into less time with less thinking time. Now it is e-mail - even faster...and less thought.”

Agree?  Disagree?  Comments?  Opinion?  Let me know.
